Winterfold Woods sits in the heart of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Terrain is mixed and there are certainly hills but we think they’re always worth it!

Our autumn/winter series of runs are a great opportunity to get out on the trails to practice running in the dark in the comfort of a group. You may want to build your confidence running in the dark or you may just want to show off your new headtorch. Either way, you’re welcome. We will also have both a front runner and a tail runner so there’s no chance of anyone being left behind in the dark.

The run will be around 10 miles; as with all trail running, distances are approximate simply because there’s so much to see and so much to explore.  From the meeting point we’ll wind our way through the maze of trails in Winterfold.

The run is led by Ry, experienced trail runner, athlete, run leader and coach.  You’ll have the chance to take in his advice and ask him your questions….he loves a good chat!

Ability/Pace: This is a run to enjoy and explore, it is not a race and not a speed session.  We start as a group and stay as a group.  There will be some hills which you can take at your own pace but we ask that you are already comfortable running 10-11 min miles/6:15-6:50 min kms and have a good basic level of run fitness to run the distance comfortably.  We will regularly regroup as needed.

What’s included:

Experienced, qualified and insured run leader(s)

Bag storage if needed (please be aware this will be in our own locked vehicle)

Beautiful trails

What’s not included:

Running kit

Headtorch

Food and drinks

Travel to/from

Personal insurance (recommended)

Kit:

YOU MUST HAVE A HEADTORCH for this run as it will be dark. (Plus make sure it’s fully charged!)

We recommend wearing trail running shoes.

Please check the weather and wear clothing appropriate for this and your needs – you know yourself the best in terms of how you tolerate particular weathers! It would also be beneficial to wear reflective kit as it will be dark.

We are big fans of fuelling and hydrating when running.  Think about bringing a drink as even when it’s getting cold you still need to keep hydrated. We are likely to be out for around 1 hour. You may want to bring a run pack/bag/belt to carry these if you don’t have pockets or handheld flasks.

Getting there:

Meet us at the start point (see above) up to 10 mins before the start time.

Parking is available just be aware it can get busy so if you know someone else running with us we would encourage you to lift share – it’s also great for the environment!

COVID-19:

We will be following the appropriate COVID-19 risk management guidelines at the time of the run.  Prior to the day we will send out an update on this so that we are all clear what is required by us as your leaders and you as runners.

Please be reassured that should the run have to be cancelled/postponed due to COVID-19 we will be in direct contact and you will be offered the choice of transferring to another run (availability dependent), putting the money towards a 1:1 guided run with Ry or Laura or a full refund.
